Towing After Saltwater or Flood Exposure in Miami Beach
Street flooding and saltwater exposure can affect mechanical, electrical and safety systems. A vehicle that looks dry later may still contain hidden contamination or damage.
Do not restart a flooded vehicle
Avoid turning the ignition on or attempting to drive. Starting the engine or energizing electrical systems may worsen damage. Keep away from moving floodwater and downed lines; call emergency authorities when the location is dangerous.
Describe the exposure clearly
Tell dispatch whether the water was fresh, brackish or saltwater if known, the approximate water height and whether the vehicle was running. Mention an electric or hybrid powertrain, visible damage, warning lights and whether the car rolls. Do not touch damaged high-voltage components.
Arrange an appropriate destination
Contact a repair facility that can evaluate flood exposure and confirm it will receive the vehicle. Photos from a safe, dry location may help document the condition for repair and insurance conversations. Do not enter a flooded garage to retrieve belongings.
